- I'm Eric...hic!
- I'm Inspector Goole. There has been a death! A lady named Eva Smith has taken her own life!
- She was a trouble maker. I sacked her! It wasn't my fault!
- She worked at Millwards and laughed at me, trying on a dress. I had her sacked. I feel terrible!
- The Birlings are hosting an engagement party
- You recognise her picture, don't you?
- An inspector interrupts the party to say a woman has killed herself
- To get a job she had to change her name to Daisy Renton. Gerald...do you know her?
- So sorry Sheila. I met her in a theatre bar. I had an affair with her. I had to break it off.
- Mr Birling sees her picture and says it is not his fault
- You look nervous Eric. What is your connection to Daisy?
- Met her too. She became pregnant. I stole money from the business to support her. When she found out she refused any help from me at all. I feel terrible!
- Sheila then sees the picture. She becomes upset.
- Gerald admits he had a love affair with the same women.
- Eric has had a relationship with her too and she had become pregnant and refused his money.
