Storyboard Description

This storyboard depicts the journey of an ESOL/ELL Adult Learner as they obtain their US Driver's Licence. This is for ESC MALET Graduate Studies Advanced Portfolio.

Storyboard Text

  • In order to access the gaming component - Adult ESOL/ELL Learners must first go to CourseSites.com They will be provided a user id and password through email from their instructor.
  • Welcome to the ESOL/ELL Game - "How to Obtain Your Driver's License in the US" Please follow these directions carefully as you go through the game. Please a sample of how the game works.
  • Introduction for the Game with brief explanation of how to use buttons, controls and how many levels are included. It should also be noted that this game follows a lesson on vocabulary and practices of obtaining a Driver's License in NYS. This game provides a reinforced environment for learned concepts.
  • For the Learners - this will be an introduction to the game through story connections. Two characters that lead the learner into the experience.
  • My name is Aesha. I'm from India. My friend Juju and I need to get our driver's licenses in America. How do we do this? Can you tell us what we should do?
  • Hi my name is Juju. I am from Uzbekistan, I am uncertain how to get my US Driver's license.
  • There will be questions asked - and answers provided - If the Adult Learners answer correctly - AHH!! (response) If incorrect - OOOHH!
  • What is the first step? A) Visit the local DMV office or go online to http://dmv.ny.gov/nav/driver-license- learner-permit ? B) Take my road test C) Pay and walk away with a driver's license.
  • Ok... I'm at the DMV or online at DMV... What form do I complete to get my permit? A) Driver's Learning Permit B) Purchase Permit C) Driver's liscense form?
  • The answers will be followed by a positive or negative response - audio sound.
  • This stop-over in the gaming component is a pause for the Adult Learner to solidify concepts learned
  • I have filled out my Driver's permit and taken the written exam. I sure hope I passed my test!
  • The game-story continues with additional prompts for the learners to make decisions based on learned concepts.
  • I passed my Driver's permit written exam. Now what do I do? A) Go take another written exam B) Talk to a DMV representative to schedule my road test. C) Do nothing. I'm a driver now.
  • The learners will have been taught the road signs previously in a lesson. They will need to select by clicking on the sign... and choosing the correct corresponding answer for the next segment.
  • We learned the road signs in our lesson. Please choose carefully with Aesha. You can do this!
  • I need to know what these signs are. Can you help me match the definition to the sign?
  • Introducing the idea of initial safety before driving - Concepts learned in the Lesson.
  • What do I do when I first get into my car to drive? A) Adjust seat B) Put my seatbelt on. C) Adjust mirrors.
  • Prior to taking the Road Test in NYS - It is usually a good idea for the driver to practice driving on US roads. They must know the road regulations. These concepts will be pre-taught.
  • Let's practice driving! Show me .. A) Where to stop at this cross-walk. B) When do I go? C) What do I do if I want to turn right?
