- Brothers! Can I come with you?
- Maui's brothers set off for a fishing trip.
- He'll just use his powers, as always.
- No, you can't come Maui!
- Maui hid in their canoe (very secretly) until they were far out in the ocean.
- Maui cast his hook into the ocean.
- The hook sank to the depths, hooking upon the underwater house of Tonganui, grandson of the god of the sea Tangaroa.
- Maui eventually hauled his catch to the surface. His catch became known as 'Te-Ika-a-Maui'- as we now know: The North Island of New Zealnd
- Maui told his brothers to leave the fish alone until he returned. His brothers did not listen and started hacking and beating the fish to kill it, this is what formed the mountains and shape of the land in the North Island.
