Throughout the book it shows many times Holden has been depressed or sad. I believed he was sad and depressed because he was just a teenager looking to find himself. He went through rough times.
Holden is in the cab talking to the cab driver about the duck and how they disappear. Up above you will see holden and the cab driver talking.
