So Carrie spent 9 years travelling around the world. But she didn't stop in her suffrage work; she continued to promote equal suffrage rights for women worldwide.
VOTES FOR WOMEN IN ENGLAND
In 1915, she returned to the USA and resumed presidency of the NAWSA. It had become badly divided over campaigning strategies.
In 1916, Carrie proposed her "Winning Plan". This campaign focused on winning the vote in at least 36 states so that a federal amendment could be passed.
We must focus on winning the vote in individual states before we can get a federal amendment.

Carrie played an important role in many key states. She united the multiple suffrage groups in New York, making them stronger, which greatly contributed to NY's suffrage victory in 1917.
NY PASSES WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE BILL
Finally on August 26, 1920, Carrie's hard work paid off. The 19th amendment was ratified by only 1 vote, allowing women to vote.
