- Kids gather stones in piles to be used for the lottery.
- Mr. Summers brings in the black box and everyone gathers around so the lottery can begin.
- Mr. Summers calls out everyone's name and they get a slip of paper, one by one.
- Everyone opens their cards at once to see who will get it...
- Mrs. Hutchinson ends up getting the black dot on her paper.
- Everyone in the town pelts her with rocks.
