  • After France, Britain, and the US joined their forces in Germany in Berlin to one big force led by the US, Stalin became very mad. He didn't like that it was now one big force. He wanted them to be separated so he would have more power. Stalin believed that if he could force the West Berliners to join him, the US forces would split back into three parts. Stalin thought of the idea to block all supplies to West Berlin so they would either join him or die.
  • What should we do about the France, Britain, and US combining their land in Germany and Berlin Stalin?
  • We are going to force the West Berliners to either join us or starve to death.
  • Stalin put his word into motion. He put West Berlin under a blockade of food, water, clothing, and all other essentialsupplies. West Berlin began to starve and hope that the US, French, andBritish would do something. While Stalin hoped they would fall to Communism.
  • Now there is no way to get any supplies to Berlin through my line of defense that surrounds Berlin.
  • Berlin
  • We could attack the USSR and force them to stop the blockade, but that would start another war.
  • The US, French, and British had to come up with a way to get supplies to West Berlin. If they shipped them they would be taken. If they attacked with force, a war would start. The idea was thought of to fly them over and drop supplies over the city. If the USSR would attack them, a war would begin, so the plan was decided.
  • What should we do about the blockade?
  • I got it! We should fly it over Germany into Berlin. Like you said if either of us attack another war will start, and we are stronger than the USSR right now.
  • The UN sent plane after plane with supplies for the city. They flew over the German lines and over West Berlin where they dropped the crates with parachutes attached to them. The planes had, food, water, clothing, oil, and other essential things to live with. This was called the Berlin Airlift.
  • The planes started to drop crates of essential goods to the people in West Berlin onJune 26, 1948. They dropped the crates over the city with parachutes attached to each crate. Stalin knew that his plan backfired so onMay 12, 1949, when Soviet forces lifted the blockade on land access to western Berlin. During this airlift277,264 aircraft with over 2 million tons of supplies. This was a great victory for the UN and a sad defeat because West Berlin did not fall to Communism,.
  • Noooo! I can't do anything about this. If I attack we start a war. My plan has backfired.
  • We could be friends which would rise the tension of you and the US. They would lose use to you because we are the same. Also, you could create some weapons in case America wants to go to war.
  • With Stalin's blockade becoming a massive failure, the USSR went in different directions. They became a friend with China. which didn't last long, they entered the space race, and they created more destructive weapons. This rose the tensions between the US and the USSR. With China becoming friends with the USSR, America stopped trading with them and this ruined some of America's trading in the Eastern Hemisphere
  • Thank you China.
  • China, what should I do now because I ended the blockade?
