  • Act 2 Scene 7 The hall of Portia's house in Belmont. Portia enters with the Prince of Morocco and their Servants and Attendants
  • [The Prince examines each one] Wow! how will in know if I have chosen the correct one?
  • [portia to servant] open the curtains so the prince can choose one of the caskets.
  • Act 2 Scene 7 Portia and Prince Morocco
  • Oh Lord help me choose correctly. But I will have to look closely at them again
  • You will know Prince if you have the right one because it will have a picture of me.
  • Act 2 Scene 7
  • Oh know, what have I done! This casket contains a skull and it has a paper stuck in its eye socket.
  • Morocco The first, of gold, bears this inscription:"who chooses me shall gain what many men desire." the second of silver, carries this promise:"who chooses me shall get as much as he deserves." the third, made of dull , has a warning just as blunt: "Who chooses me must give and gamble all he has."

  • let me read what it says on the paper.
  • Portia [handing over the key]
  • Act 2 Scene 7
  • Great, my journey to find a princess is over! I am to upset to talk now so I will just leave.
  • [He unlocks the golden casket]
  • Act 2 Scene 7
  • Goodbye and get out! Hopefully the next person who will choose me will not have the same complexion as you. [to the Servants] Close the curtains!
  • All tha glitters is not gold; often have you heard that told. Many a man his life has sold Just my outside to behold. Golden tombs do worms enfold. Had you been as wise as bold, Young in limbs, in wisdom old, Your answer would not be enrolled- Fare you well. your suit is cold.
  • [bowing]
