There are some issues going on involving GDD memory loss
Organizational Memory loss will cost GDD
First I need to explain to you the consequences of Organizational Memory Loss.
Why tacit knowledge prevents memory loss
So what are ways that prevent organizational memory loss?
Tacit Knowledge can prevent memory loss in GDD!
Organizational memory is spanning all the different repositories where a company stores their knowledge, this includes formalrecords and tacit knowledge located in people and processes (Hajric,n.d.). Since Mr. Hartfield cannot find his old research this impairs the spread of tacit knowledge through the organization because he is leaving and will not be able to keep the knowledge in the company.
More ways tacit knowledge is valuable
There is also more ways that tacit knowledge prevents memory loss for GDD.
Organizational Memory Loss can cause GDD a lot financially if we do not stop the problem before it starts. Without proper employee turnover it can cost as much as a year salary to retrain a new employee with all the knowledge that they need.
Technological Resources to help retain tacit knowledge
How can we spread tacit knowledge through GDD
We will need to utilize our technological resources.
The transfer of tacit knowledge is communication between individuals of the organization. This means, the more comfortable the employees are, the more they are willing to share with each other (Kransdorrf, n.d.). Tacit knowledge will prevent organizational memory loss because it spreads GDD specific knowledge including information about what aircraft will be the most reliable for the company.
Conclusion
I have a better understanding of tacit knowledge and memory loss. We will start implimenting these strategies.
Spreading tacit knowledge will also make a more positive impact on strategy decisions by allowing GDD’s new employees to gain the knowledge of what has worked in the past and what hasn’t. Another reason tacit knowledge will prevent memory loss is because it will allow current employees to document the GDD-specific knowledge about prior success and this will carry on to the rest of the company and improve employee turnover.
Organizational memory is centralized around a technological system which is where the employees can find the products of tacit knowledge. Technology can be used to store knowledge by ways of platforms such as email that reaches the organization for planning and scheduling easily and efficiently (Dalkir,2011).
By understanding organizational memory loss along with how to properly manage and spread tacit knowledge, GDD will make giant improvements in the company and make a much larger profit.
