- Esmeralda Santiago moved to Brooklyn from Puerto Rico with her mother and several of her brothers and sisters when she was 13 years old, leaving her father and life in the country behind

- Esmeralda moved and changed school, where she attended the ninth grade.
- FALLING ACTIONS
- Mr. Barone, a School counselor, called Esmeralda into her office to ask her some questions.
- RESOLUTION
- Then she went to audition in front of the judges but her nerves invaded her and she didn't speak much.

- Although she was nervous and believed she had done it wrong, Esmeralda Santiago was accepted into the School of Performing Arts.
- What a thrill!!
- Esmeralda did her spectacular monologue, one of her teachers who attended the audition told her "We admire the courage it took to stand in front of us and do what you did.
