Melody is a very intelligent 11 year old girl. She is wheelchair-bound because her cerebral palsy makes it difficult for her to control her muscles. Melody is also unable to speak. Her parents and Mrs. V take care of her.
Exposition
Melody enters an inclusion classroom. She gets the chance to interact with "normal" kids. Not all teachers and students welcome her into school or treat her well.
Conflict
Ms. V and Melody order a high-tech computer that can speak responses for Melody.
Melody joins the school academic team. She becomes the best of the group, despite what Mrs. V thought had previously thought about her.
Rising Action
When Melody goes to school, her sister Penny runs out their home because she loves riding in the car. Her mom hits Penny with the car. Melody tried to warn her mother but she was unable to communicate. Melody fears Penny could have brain damage from the accident. Fortunately, Penny was not injured fro the accident.
Falling Action
Because of Melody's wheelchair, she was not allowed to travel for the competition. When the team returned to school from the competition, they gave Melody a plastic trophy. Melody was upset because she did not participate and help her team win, so she throws the trophy on the floor. breaking it into many pieces.
