Storyboard Text

  • Be kind to that widow gleaning in the field. Leave some barley on the ground for her. Give her food and water.
  • I gleaned in a man named Boaz's field.
  • He is our kinsmen redeemer! Go to Boaz tomorrow night, dressed in your finest with perfume.
  • Once Ruth and Naomi were back in Israel, Ruth went to glean in the field belonging to Naomi's relative, Boaz. Gleaning was a common practice for the poor and the widows to make sure they got food.
  • Of course, but there is one man who is in line first.
  • When Ruth got back to their house, she explained where she had gleaned. Naomi realized that this was their kinsman redeemer. She makes a plan with Ruth for the following evening.
  • So, can I redeem her, or will you redeem her?
  • No, you can redeem her instead.
  • Ruth goes to Boaz who is in the threshing floor. He had spent the evening threshing barley and had fallen asleep. Ruth lies down at his feet, but Boaz wakes up.
  • Ruth tells Boaz that he is their kinsman redeemer and asks him to redeem her. Boaz has to see if the other man wants to redeem her. Being a kinsman redeemer in Israel meant that you would marry the widow so that the family line would continue through a son.
  • I am Ruth, Naomi's daughter-in law. You are our kinsman redeemer. Would you redeem me?
  • Boaz and Ruth meet with the elders by the gates to ask if the other redeemer will redeem Ruth. The other redeemer decides not to marry Ruth, and so passes on a sandal to Boaz to mark the exchange.
  • Ruth and Boaz get married, and Ruth has a child, who they name Obed. Naomi is happy once again, and takes care of Obed. Obed is the grandfather of David, who is part of the line to Jesus.
  • You know, Obed makes me so happy! God has truly blessed me!
