- Have you ever been at a lost of words? Maybe because of shock or anger, but the more you try to find the words, the more frustrated you become and the more things just get jumbled up? Personally, That's how I imagine students like Maya must feel. Just because someone is unable to respond to you.... this does not mean they do not understand what's being said and asked.
- I was reminded about the theory of love languages and how people express their love differently. Some people express their love with kind words, some people buy and give gifts and others may express their love through gestures and action. Communication is like this, everybody is different and the way we communicate is different. There are many ways to communicate. People are unique and as educators, we should support students in developing communication skills that are suitable to their individual styles.
- No matter what there are some things that are universal to all of us. For example, emotions, gestures, and art. Verbal expression and Words are not the only way to communicate. Art is a medium for people to creatively express themselves and communicate in many forms, as well as find themselves in their own art or the art of others. Art takes on many forms- music, painting, baking, etc..., everything is art, and it all speaks.
