He came upon a hut that was lit up and there was a lady that had just given birth. There was another women in there that was helping with the baby. "I could not make out the face of the mother who rested from the pains of birth, but I could see the old woman in black who tended the just-arrived, steaming baby." pg 5
The vaqueros came and they saw the baby. They found out it was a boy and they said the baby can be a vaquero."Gabriel, they shouted, you have a fine son! He will; make a fine vaquero!" pg. 5
The father says that the town steals their freedom, so they want to build a castle across the river. "Father says that the town steals our freedom; he says that we must build a castle across the river, on the lonely hill of the mockingbirds." pg. 25
