It is History class and Jonny is yelling at Sierra because she knows nothing about guns and he is making fun of her because she has never held one before. They were going over the second amendment.
Here in this setting little Sierra is contemplating looking into her parents room to check out their guns and actually hold one. She knows they do not lock them up.
Here is Sierra's parents room with guns clearly visible to children, they should be put away and locked up so children cannot get ahold of them. According to the New York Time “little children explore their worlds without understanding danger, and in one unsupervised moment, an encounter with a gun can end in fatality.”
In the New York Times it states "1 and 24 killed every day in the United States by gun injuries." and that access to guns are more so now than they have ever been they pose an endangerment to children.
It states that "To limit unauthorized access to guns, the academy recommended the use of trigger locks, lockboxes, personalized safety mechanisms, and trigger pressures that are too high for young children". Sierra's parents did not do that for lack of knowledge on how dangerous and alluring guns can be for children.
Sierra's parents rush home when they find out there had been a terrible accident at their house, they come home to find Sierra in terrible condition due to the gun fired whilst she was holding it. Now you see how guns can potentially end a life. Be aware about gun safety and protect the children in your home!
