He was very tired so he decided to pick the bed and breakfast because it was close and inviting. He rang the bell and immeadiatly the door swung open.
Billy and the landlady sat and talked after Billy was told to sign the guestbook. She offered him tea. He was thinking about the names in the book. They seemed familiar.
Billy couldn't get the names out of his head. He felt like he read them in the newspaper. He was distracted by the taste of the tea. It tasted faintly of bitter almonds.
Billy asked about Mr. Temple and Mr. Mulholland. The landlady said they had never left. They were still here and on the fourth floor.
All along the dog sleeping on the rug by the fireplace and the parrot were not really alive. They were stuffed. The landlady says she stuffs alll her pets when they pass away.
