  • After Simon Fraser's father died in Albany, New York, Simon and his family moved to Canada in 1784.
  • Simon Fraser worked in what is now British Columbia for years before he went exploring and setting up trading posts. In 1805 he set up a post in McLeod Lake and then in 1806 he wanted to explore "The Columbia River" so he traveled to the lower mainland of B.C and discovered the Fraser River.
  • Simon reached the mouth of the Fraser River and discover that its dangerous currents were not for trading and he also discovered that the river was to far north to be the Columbia.
