  • We hold these Truths to be self evident...
  • The Battle of Lexington and Concord started the American Revolutionary War. On April 18th 1775 British troops fought the patriots near Boston and the British were forced to retreat. Also women were important by following and supporting the soldiers.
  • This has been a very rough winter.
  • The Declaration of Independence was written on July 4, 1776. The 13 colonies declared their independence from Great Britain to be an independent nation. They formed an alliance with France against Great Britain.
  • This will be our last battle.
  • The Battle of Saratoga was from September 19-October 7 1977. There were 2 battles - the battle at Freeman's farm and the battle of Bemis Heights. The patriots had the advantage of fighting on home soil. The British surrendered after the second battle.
  • These people keep moving in on our land.
  • The continental army led by General George Washington stayed in this winter camp at Valley Forge. Many soldiers died from disease. Days after they left the camp they won the battle of Monmouth in New Jersey against the British and Lord Cornwallis.
  • The Battle of Yorktown led by British general Cornwallis was against General George Washington and French allies. Some African Americans helped the British in hopes of freedom. The British surrendered. This was the last battle of the American Revolution.
  • Native Americans lost the most because of the war. They lost land and colonists continued to move west and push them out.
