At the beginning of the story, Parvana had a bad relationship with Nooria and a close one with Maryam, and was scared to go out into the market. At the end of the story Parvana preferred to be out in the market, and her relationship with Nooria became much stronger. Parvana was sad that Nooria was leaving even if the did not get along all the time. Parvana always put her family first and she became the breadwinner for her family.
In the beginning of the story Nooria was mean, rude, and bossy towards Parvana. She always acted superior and antagonized Parvana. She had a close relationship with her mother so they were always on the same side. Towards the story, Nooria's relationship with her mother weakens as her relationship with Parvana grows stronger. Their arguing stopped and Nooria became kinder. They were both upset to leave each other in the end.
In the beginning of the story, Mother was overall just depressed, and couldn't take care of her children, responsibilities, or herself. She just wasn't doing her job as a mother. In the end, she got up and did her job as both a mother, and a wife. She was up and taking care of her kids, and daily house chores. She was doing what she needed to do overall.
Mrs. Weera took it upon herself to come to Parvana's home and help them. She wanted their family to be closer, and to all get along. She took care of her mother, and her baby brother. She helper her family overall to get back on their feet. She was very understanding, and helped Parvana's family to get through the hard times.
Maryam grew up in the small one room apartment, she had never ever been outside. She loved top spend time with Parvana, and they had a very close relationship. By the end of the book, Maryam loved beign outside and helping Parvana with outdoor chores like getting water.
Shauzia was very similar to Parvana, in the sense that they both are the breadwinners of their households. Shauzia prefers to be out in the marker because her household is a very negative environment. There is always fighting, and her mother is very sick while her father is dead. She lives with her dad's parents who don't believe in girls education. She'd rather spend all day in the market than in her home.
