The myth of Romulus and Remus is they were put in a river to die but a wolf found them and raised them. Then a family found them and raised them as kids rather than wolves. From there their parents found them, the twins rescued their mother. When the boys grew up they got in a fight about who would pick their towns name. They fought until death and thats when Rome got its name.
The Greek influence of architecture
Romans became great builders because they learned from the Etruscan's. A very important Etruscan structure the Romans adapted to was the arch. . Another very important one was the cuniculus. The Romans eventually adapted to these structures and in time they became better engineers than the Etruscan's.
The Greek influence of writing, art, and religion
The Romans also adapted to two bloody sports events. The first one is slave fighting. The Etruscan custom was to stage slave fights during funerals. Two slaves of the dead master fought to death. After being congratulated, the winner was executed. The second was the chariot races. The chariot drivers were strapped to their chariots. If a chariot overturned, they could be dragged under the chariots wheels or trampled by the horses. These fierce competitions often resulted in injury or death.
Greek architecture was an important influence on the Romans. The Greeks constructed marble temples as homes for their gods. They used columns that came from the Greeks culture. They used the columns to build their own public buildings.
Like the Greeks, the Romans wrote in all capital letters. The Greeks carved important documents, such as laws and treaties, into bronze or stone plaques, some of which were displayed in the public squares. Greek pottery was the most valued art in Rome that was influenced by the Greeks. The Romans got their ideas of religion from the Greeks. They performed rituals and sacrifices to gain the gods' favor for everything from a good harvest to curing the sick.
