In a small Texas town we had a school tradition. Every 8th Grade Valedictorian got a free scholarship jacket. My Father and Mother were not making enough money so he sent me to live with my grandparents.
I forgot my cloths in my locker one day and went to get them. When i was walking by my history class i overheard 2 of my teachers arguing about the scholarship jacket.
" I refuse to do it! Joanes Father owns the only store in town but Martha's Grades are much better!" "My history teacher, Mr. Boone, said Joanes father would never sponsor us again !" Mr.Boone stormed out of going right past me.
The next day the principal called me to his office. He told me there was a 15 dollar fine for the jacket. If i didn't play it it would go to Joann the second person in line for the jacket.
I told my grandpa so he could give me the money. He refused, he said if he had to pay for it it wouldn't be a Scholarship Jacket which was sadly true.
I told my principal what my grandpa said and he looked at me and broke the silence with a relieving statement. He said he thought it through and was rude of him to make that rule. He gave the jacket to me and i left with a wonderful feeling.
