On a december night, the narrator is at his house reading a book. While reading the book, a raven enters the room through the window.
The narrator hears a knock on the door. When he opens the door, there is nothing there and then he hears another knock. He says it was the window. While he opens the window a raven flies in on the statue of athena. The narrator asks the raven a series of questions and the bird responds every time with "nevermore".
the climax is when the narrator asks his last question. he asked "will i ever get to hold lenore again in heaven?" the bird then responds with "nevermore"
After the bird tells him that he will never see lenore again, he gets mad at the bird. he then tells the bird to get out but the bird says "nevermore."
the raven continues to stay there. that is a reminder that the memory of Lenore will continue to haunt him.
the theme is that memory of a lost loved one can be happy, comforting, or sorrowful.
