  • How Much Land Does a Man Need
  • I would not change my way of life for yours.
  • We may live roughly, but at least we are free from anxiety.
  • 40 acres of this land is yours for only 2000 rubles.
  • Oh, I'll take it!
  • For Sale 40  acres
  • By Leo Tolstoy
  • I am going to fine these people for letting their animals trespass and mess up my land!!
  • A older sister comes visit her younger sister bragging to her on how her life is better than hers. Pahom, the youngers sisters husband. was lying on top of the stove listening to the womens chatter. Pahom tells the older sister that the only trouble they have is, they dont have enough land. Pahom tells her that if he had plenty of land, he shoudnlt fear the deviel himself. But, the devil was behind the stove this whole time and says to himself that pahom is in his power.
  • well, let it be so. Choose whatever piece of land you want, we have plenty of it!
  • How can I take as much as I like.
  • A lady was selling her 300 acres of land. Pahom and the peasants were worried because the fines would get worse. They had fines because of horses and cows eating the oats. The peasants ask the lady to sell the land to them and each get a part. The lady agreed, so pahom and his wife were discussing on how to buy land because he needed more. They did anything to get money, and collect 2000 rubles because that's what the lady wanted and bought the 40 acres.
  • There's your lesson for being greedy.
  • Ahhh! He has gained much land.
  • After Pahom bought his 40 acres of land, his neigbor peasants trespassed on his corn fields and meadows. Then the communile herdsman let the villages cows and horses stray into his meadows and his corn. Pahom forgave the owners, but later lost his patience and complained to the district court. Pahom then made them pay fines.
  •  Pahom goes to the Bashkirs, asks them for land, then the chief arrives and agrees. Pahom could have as much as he wanted, but had to get 1000 rubbles a day. Pahom had to pick his spot and start from there, had to return by sunset, and all the land he covers is his. The devil gave him this lesson to see what hes going to do.
  • Pahom was so desperate for land that he went over the limits and had no time to get back by sunset where he was suppose to be back. He knew he wasnt going to make it so he runs back and was so tired that he died. So the devil basically taught him a lesson about being greedy
