Ellie Mack, fifteen, the youngest of three was days away from post-exams summer vacation. And then she was gone. Just like that. Her whole life out in front of her and suddenly she disappeared on her way to the library.
9 1/2 years later, her mother has not stopped looking for her and one day, in the woods, Ellie's backpack is found.
Ten years later, Ellie's mom, Laurel Mack, must admit that her daughter is gone forever and holds a funeral.
Then, one day while Laurel is having a cup of coffee, she meets Floyd Dunn, who starts a conversation over carrot cake and bonds over the disappearances of their daughters.
Not long after, and a few dates later, Floyd introduces Laurel to Poppy who, strangely enough, reminds Laurel of Ellie.
Soon, Laurel starts getting suspicious that Floyd isn't all he says he is and she does some investigating of her own, revealing some things and finding Joshua Donnelley, Noelle Donnelley's son.
