Storyboard Description

This Comic Will Tell you about the Indigenous health gap

Storyboard Text

  • The Close the Gap Campaign aims to close the health and life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians within a generation.
  • In 2015–2017, life expectancy at birth for Indigenous Australians was estimated to be 71.6 years for males and 75.6 years for females. In comparison, over the same period life expectancy at birth for non-Indigenous Australians was 80.2 years for males and 83.4 years for females
  • Some researchers have attributed about two-thirds of the Indigenous–non-Indigenous health gap is linked to chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mental disorders and chronic lung disease because a lot of the time they don't receive the same treatment as non-Aboriginal/torustrai Islander
  • One of the main things that the Close the Gap Campaign hopes to achieve is to have Indigenous health equality by 2030
  • We believe that the reason this has gained so much support is because the Australian government has seen that they need to close the gap because it is not fair on indigenous people.
