After the French and Indian War, Britain needed money. So King George III imposed taxes on the colonies to pay for Britain. The Sugar Act is just one of the taxes that were imposed on the colonies.

After the Sugar Act was repealed in 1765, the British government imposed a new tax: the Stamp Act. It taxed almost everything on paper, even playing cards! It was repealed in 1766.

Tea was very special back in those days. There was no Coke, or Pepsi, or any sodas. Tea was one of the few flavored liquids available. So you can see why the colonists were so angry.
Colonists got so mad about the Tea Tax that members of a patriot group called the Sons Of Liberty dressed as Indians and boarded a ship carrying tea. They threw more than 300 crates of tea into the Boston Harbor.
