- Evelyn Hugo, an aging star from the Golden Age of Hollywood, calls upon young reporter Monique Grant to offer her the deal of a lifetime-- a chance to record Evelyn's life story.
- First, Evelyn married Ernie Diaz in order to move to Hollywood and pursue an acting career.
- While gaining fame in the movie business, Evelyn divorces Ernie and marries Don Adler, a fellow actor and stage presence.
- Evelyn and Don's marriage starts to fracture as he shows different sides of himself. Evelyn meets and reluctantly befriends Celia St. James, a promising young actress.
- Evelyn divorces Don, who in turn blacklists her from any future movies with Sunset Studios. Evelyn and Celia realize that they want to be more than friends.
- In order to hide the truth about Evelyn and Celia's intimate relationship, Evelyn convinces Mick Rivera to elope with her. The next day, they divorced.
