Montag is an average person who works as a firefighter. He lives in a one-minded society. It is illegal to keep or read a book where he lives, so his job is to burn all books that he sees.

Montag is influenced by his emotions that he can't feel because he doesn't have any. Clarisse asked "Are you Happy?" to Montag but Montag had no answer for the question because he does not feel any emotions inside him. Montag had then begun to question his love for his wife on if he still loves her.

Montag grows sick be had stolen a book and he had burned a woman so he had felt guilty. And he feels so bad about the situation till the point he calls off for work.
Montag Finds Fulfillment(pg.120-end)
After being with Faber Montag looked for guidance from him, Montag begins to rebel against Beatty and the workers in the department. and this is when Beatty realizes what Montag is about to do.
Montag goes to Faber's house to get some clothes, and liquor to change his look and smell, so that the mechanical hound doesn’t find him. After, Montag jumps in a river and has time to think about his life, and actions until he reaches land again. This is the final side we see of Montag because he thinks of everything he always just passed over, and this is a huge learning experience for him
