Mom has been lying to me
Madeline ends up in the hospital because she got extremely sick since her body is only used to the environment she lives in her house.
Madeline gets a letter from the doctor who treated her in Hawaii saying that she doesn't have SCID and got sick because she spent her whole life inside and has never formed a natural immunity.
Madeline's mom only told her that she had SCID to protect her because she was her only child left after the death of her husband and son. Madeline mom didn't want to lose Madeline thats why she lied to Madeline.
