  • There were British soldiers on the beach because as the British and french were waiting for the english to come rescue them. Many men either didn’t make it or couldn’t make it on the boat because there wasn’t enough space. Some of the bodies might have come from sea as many of those ships had sunk thanks to the german’s bombing them.
  • The soldiers were rescued by boat. These boats weren’t military boats because they couldn't come rescue them. Instead they were fishing boats and anyone other boat which could go and help them or was near Dunkirk.
  • For the soldiers it was like hell. They didn’t know if they would have made it out of there alive. The RAF and the Luftwaffe were there fighting each other and the luftwaffe was throwing bombs at all the boats leaving. Even if they did make it onto a boat they still weren't sure if they would make it out alive.
  • The BEF lost around 68,000 soldiers during the campaign. Thousands of french troops were taken in as prisoners by the german’s.
  • I think that even though many soldiers were taken by the Nazi’s or killed, Dunkirk was a triumph because even though the military boat’s couldn’t get to them, Churchill still found a way for most of these soldiers to get home. I feel that this is a triumph because first Churchill found a way to convince these men but also because these rescue boats still went to Dunkirk even after knowing that they might not make it out of there alive.
