Storyboard Text

  • Prior to the 1950s before any black right movements, America was a very difficult place to be an African American. They were forced to be on the other side of the street, limited on which public transport they can use, limited in the stores they could use and what they could buy and many more ridiculous things.
  • It was very difficult to stand up for your rights as it generally ended up in handcuffs or sometimes African American people were even beaten for trying to stand up for themselves.
  • Although all of these laws put in place on the 5th of December, 1956 an African American woman by the name of Rosa Parks sat at the front of the bus instead of the back and refused to move for a white person.
  • Not long after this she was arrested for breaking the Alabama Segregation Laws in which a black person must sit at the back of the bus and always give up their seat to a white person.
  • She was found guilty and was fined $10 as well as an additional $4 for court fee.
  • What they didn't know at the time was that Rosa Park's incident sparked the civil rights movement where Martin Luther King used this incident as a way to show the problem in America, this movement quickly abolished many segregation laws throughout many states in America and started seeing African American people as equals.
