The Americans are being tracked down and chased by the British. The Americans just lost a major battle. Therefore, Washington has to come up with his next step so the Americans can continue and hopefully win the war.
The Americans make it across the river
General Washington made a plan to attack the Hessians in Trenton on Christmas night. He has to get boats for him and his men to cross the river. He plans on attacking the Hessians during the night and catching them off guard.
The Americans attack the Hessians
Washington got boats and is loading his men on them. He wants to make it across the river and to Trenton before day. He realizes that it is going to take a lot longer to cross so, he knows he will have to attack in daylight.
General Rall surrenders to General Washington
The Americans finally make it across the river. Most men are exhausted. As they march to Trenton the sun starts to come up. Washington knows he will have to move fast so they can catch the Hessians off guard.
The Americans marched to Trenton and the Hessians were still asleep. General Washington orders his men to attack. The Hessians struggle to get in formation and counter-attack.
The leader of the Hessians was shot in battle. He asks to speak to Washington so that he can surrender to him. He begs Washington to keep his men alive and dies during that conversation.
