We need to take a stand
I need to fight
In this chapter, Lynda's mother dies. Her grandma tells her to stay strong and determined.
Lynda goes to hear Martin Luther King speak. She realises she has to take a stand and starts marching.
Ruby gets thrown in jail for marching many times. One time one of the other girls was sick, so Ruby broke a window. They all got in trouble and thrown into a room called the sweatbox.
Bloody Sunday happened on March 7, 1965. People were peacefully marching to get voting rights. There were deputized police officers and a bunch of white men standing on the other side. They said they had three minutes to get out, but gave them three seconds. They tear gassed them and started to beat people. It was a travesty. Ruby had to get many stitches and was very mad.
