  • On the night of 4 August 1789 the National Assembly finally decided to abolish the feudal system entirely including abolish feudalism, and the old rules, taxes and privileges left over from the age of feudalism and the rights of the second and first estate

  • It was reportedly prompted by the reading of a report on the misery and disorder which won in the provinces, the report itself declared that “Letters from all the provinces indicate that property of all kinds is a prey to the most criminal violence; on all sides chateaux are being burned, convents destroyed, and farms abandoned to pillage. The taxes, the feudal dues, all are extinct; the laws are without force and the magistrates without authority.”

  • they hoped of pacifying and encouraging the people, the Assembly, in a fervour of enthusiasm and excitement, they straightway abolished many of the ancient abuses.
  • The abolition of feudalism was crucial to the evolution of a modern, contractual notion of property and to the development of an unimpeded market in land. But it did not directly affect the ownership of land or the level of ordinary rents and leases and by ending this system it also meant that the King, Church and nobles lost their power as well and They couldn't abuse or take advantage over the peasants, which is one of the goals of the revolution.
