I&S Project

Storyboard Text

  • Hey class. Today we are exploring globalization. Can you come up with a definition of "globalization"? Everybody has different ideas, so there are no right or wrong answers.
  • I don't know what it means… but will it mean something about the globe?
  • Hmmm… I think I have heard of this word before…
  • It describes something that is going internationally or people around the world know it.
  • Globalization probably means the process that involves global or worldwide influences.
  • These are all excellent definitions! Globalization just means "the process of interaction and integration among people, companies, and governments worldwide."
  • Since the number of students is odd, I can present individually.
  • After getting to know the topic for this unit, you guys will start to prepare for an upcoming project, which is to present the positives and negative of globalization based on research and you personal experiences.
  • There will be groups of two, and the three groups will look at three aspects: local, national, and global.
  • On the school bus…
  • For our globalization project, I can present about the positive effects, and you can present about the negatives. Is this okay?
  • I like your idea.
  • Definitely! Since our topic is mainly around the local influences, we can use our personal experiences, such as our town and our neighborhood.
  • At the lockers…
  • Hey! I was just thinking about our project… I have some ideas for the benefits of globalization nationally, like sharing common values within a country. Do you have any other ideas?
  • Great! I can also support our opinions using some statistics that I have collected.
  • Ooh! I was also thinking about the ideas. I have thought about the drawbacks of globalization, such as losing languages in one country.
  • Foreign trade and investment can be an idea. It has a good and a bad side. I see more and more imports and exports products whenever I visit the supermarket. Ooooh! I think I have also seen the spread of western cultures because my foreign friend from India told me Indian people have similar dressing styles and eating habits with Americans. I guess that's what "Americanization" is all about.
  • At home…
  • Hmm… The global aspect of globalization must be very interesting. I just discussed this topic with my parents, and what they said are very true.
