  • The Proclamation Line- 1763
  • INDIAN TERRITORY! COLONISTS MAY NOT PASS!!!
  • The Sugar Act- 1764
  • Attention colonists... you will now pay taxes on things that are imported from Britain. These taxes will go to the British government so that they can pay for British soldiers!
  • The Boston Massacre- 1770
  • The Patriots v.s. The British
  • The British King made a line along the Appalachian Mts. and forbid the colonists from settling west of the line. The colonists were furious because they believed that was their land too! They helped fight for that land.(The French and Indian War)
  • The Boston Tea Party-1773
  • Colonists were upset about the new taxes they had to pay. But they were more upset that the King and Parliament had taxed the colonies without their consent. Now, the colonies could not send representatives to parliament to speak for them.
  • The Battle of Lexington- 1775
  • A street fight between a patriot mob and a squad of British soldiers led to several colonists killed and a campaign to rouse the anger of the citizens.
  • Declaration of Independence- 1776
  • This event was a direct protest against the Tea Tax that was imposed by the British government. Boston patriots sneaked on three of their ships dressed as Mohawk Indians. The patriots then dumped 342 containers of tea into the Boston harbor.
  • When British troops are sent to take colonial weapons, they run into an untrained and angry military force. This ragtag army defeats 700 British soldiers and the surprise victory boosts their confidence for the war ahead.
  • The Declaration of Independence was a way to ensure the American colonists being an independent nation. They were then able to confirm an official alliance with the Government of France and obtain French assistance in the war against Great Britain.
