Storyboard Text

  • Stopped By The River
  • "Sir, we haven't any boats."
  • "No problem! We must cross the river!"
  • Finding a Ship
  • "Good Sir, we need to cross the Delaware River and we haven't any ships. Can we borrow from you?"
  • "Oh, so you now need our help..."
  • A Proposal From Washington
  • "I propose that we cross the river on the eve of December 25th and attack the Hessians."
  • "Maybe..."
  • The colonists were stopped by the river and needed to cross it. That normally wouldn't be a problem but with no boats, they can't cross without the generosity of others...
  • The Crossing of the Delaware River
  • The colonists needed boats to cross the river and knew that a nearby townsperson would gladly help. Now, he eventually did agree to lend them his ships but it took some time and convincing.
  • The Attack on the Hessians
  • George Washington proposed to cross the river at night and arrive to fight the Hessians in the morning, while they are still sleeping. Gates did not like this plan, and was sent out and was told to leave and not tell anyone about what he had heard at this meeting.
  • The Surrender
  • "Never! You must surrender!"
  • Washington's plan to cross the river on the eve of December 25th was fulfilled and succeeded. Glover and his fishermen were in charge of the boats, Glover was mostly in charge of the loading and unloading of the boats and the fishermen were in charge of driving the boats.
  • The colonists bombarded the Hessians in the morning, the Hessians were unprepared and scared.  They were never truly ready, the loaded their guns and tried to fight back. They're fighting back didn't exactly work in their favor.
  • After the Hessians leader was shot, they were forced to surrender. People say that no colonists were killed and/or wounded, although many Hessians were killed and/or wounded. The colonists left the battle with a new victory and knew pride for their soldiers.
