During the cabinet battle, Jefferson and Hamilton disagreed with eachother. Washington sat by kind of annoyed and Madison agreed with Jefferson. Hamilton thought the constitution was flexible and Jefferson thought the opposite.
Farmers were angry when the government put a tax on whiskey. Farmers beat and tared a tax collector. Hamilton and Henry general Lee led 13,000 soldiers into Pennsylvania to stop the uprising and prove they had power and weren't weak.
The French people rebelled against their government because of a financial crisis. Violence broke out in France. Jefferson wanted to help the French even though Washington advised that we be neutral.
Alien & Sedition Acts
After eight years in office, Washington wanted to retire. He saw the political disagreements and warned in his farewell address that they would tear the nation apart. He also included in his farewell address that we should remain neutral.
Charles Pinckney, Elbridge Gerry, and John Marshall were sent to Paris to meet with the Frech Minister of foreign affairs. For weeks their request to speak with the minister was ignored. Three French agents referred to as X, Y, and Z later pulled them aside and said they would take money from the Americans for them to speak with the minister.
This act targeted immigrants and made it so it took a much longer time to become an American citizen. This act charged many editors and Democrats. Adams was not happy with this and found a way to eventually repeal the acts.
