- Is that your brother? Why does he look so weird?
- Yeah! His name is Mikey and he has down syndrome.
- What the heck is down syndrome?
- Down syndrome is a genetic condition that happens when a child is born with an extra chromosome. The extra chromosome affects the way the child's brain and body develop, leading to developmental delays, intellectual disability and an increased risk for certain medical issues.
- OH! Do you mean he's a retard?
- Oh sorry I didnt mean to be offensive.
- What?! No! You should never call anyone retarded! It's called Down Syndrome.
- I didn't know what this disibility was untill now. I'd love to learn more about it!
- Great! We could take a class tommorrow.
- There's lots of community places we can take to learn more in parramatta like Down Syndrome NSW and we can take classes at IHNA.
- I love this class! I'm going to keep taking them!
- Hello class! Today we're going to learn about people with disabilities such as down syndrome. If you decide to keep taking classes you could get a Certificate in Disability which could get you a job working in this field!
