- Setting: 1800's by the ocean, in the switchyard or his house.
- Mrs.Curie, father, Emmy, Gilbert, Neils, Erwin, Senor
- Gilbert is fasonated with time. He wants to know why time only goes in one direction at only one speed. Why it can't go sideways.
- Gilbert's father comes back from one of his trips out to sea. So, Gilbert decides to tell his father about his recent facination about time.
- Gilbert tells his friends, the three limburgher children, about what he thinks of time but the oldest of the three tells him time is just time.
- Gilbert goes down stairs to see Mrs.Curie, but she gentaly tells Gilbert that his father is not coming home, that his father is dead.
- Gilbert and the three Limburghers went to the switch yard and and found an old handcar.
- Gilbert, Emmy, Neils, and Erwin use the handcar to travel across the water to the island, But once they got there they found that time was actually sideways.
