- Before we jump ahead to climate change, I think I should provide you with some scientific basics.
- Ok, so tell me about photosynthesis. Isn't that where plants use the sun to make their own food?
- It's a little more complicated. but yes it is. There are two different stages of photosynthesis.
- In Phase 1, plants abosorb light energy through the chloroplast. This is referred to as light dependent.
- Chloroplasts are organelles where the pigment chlorophyll captures energy from sunlight and converts it into energy

- In Phase 2 of photosynthesis, chemical reactions convert water from the soil and carbon dioxide from the air into glucose. This is referred to as light independent.
