  • The character is conflicting herself with the wallpaper because she thinks its ugly to look at and ends the conflict by completely tearing it down.

  • "It is a dull yet lurid orange in some places, a sickly sulphur tint in others. No wonder the children hated it! I should hate it myself if Ihad to live in this room long."

  • The theme of this story is oppressive gender roles where the wife just goes with whatever the husband decides.
  • Characterization
  • I wished he would let me go and make a visit to Cousin Henry and Julia. But he said I wasn’t able to go,
  • John has created himself to seem like a caring loving husband when in all actuality he's oppressing his wife and not allowing her to see people or do anything.
