- I poked my finger on the rose and now it is bleeding!
- Oh that's bad luck, Esperanza *wink*
- In the town of Aguascalientes, Esperanza, aged 6. and her father work in the vineyards.
- Esperanza picked roses before her birthday, but her Papa had not come home from the harvest. She and her mother were very nervous.
- Esperanza and her mother were horrified when they discovered their Papa had been killed. His body was brought home on a wagon late at night.
