- The Water Cycle!
- The water cycle is a way that water moves around the earths atmosphere, lithosphere and oceans.Water has been recycled using the water cycle for thousands of years and continues to do so
- There are major stages for the water cycle: Evaporation, Condensation, Transpiration, Precipitation, Infiltration and Surface run-off.
- Evaporation
- The first part of the water cycle is evaporation, evaporation is when energy is applied to water it start to change from it's liquid state to a gas state. As the water vapour rises it condenses
- Transpiration
- Transpiration is a process similar to evaporation where liquid water is turning into water vapour by the leaves of a plant.Plant leaves have little opening which are open for the passage of CO2 andO2
- Condensation
- Condensation is the process of a gas changing into a liquid. In the water cycle, water vapour in the atmosphere condenses and becomes liquid as the water vapour condenses clouds are formed
- Precipitation, Infiltration and Surface run-off
- After precipitation the water is collected in two ways surface run-off and infiltration. Surface runoff is the water moving over the land to go to large bodies of water like oceans, rivers and lakes
- Precipitation is water falling out of the sky either as rain, hail, snow or sleet
- How Climate Change effects the water cycle
- Climate change intensifies the water cycle because as air temperature increases, more water evaporates into the air. Warmer air can hold more water vapour, which can lead to more intense rainstorms, causing major problems like extreme flooding in costal communities around the world
- Infiltration is when water after precipitating water is absorbed through the soil and stored in underground aquifers
