He commanded troops in the war of 1812, he was present in the Black Hawk war in 1832, and the second of the Seminole Wars from 1835-1842. By the time the Mexican War came, which was in 1846, he was seen as a hero from many people around him. Because people thought of him as a hero, he was inaugurated as the 12th president of the United States. But, in 1850, the Compromise of 1850, Congress debated solutions to the issue of slavery's possible expansion into the territories won in the Mexican War. To many people, it was seen as one of his greatest failures. Later that year, on July 9th, President Taylor died.
