- Fortunato is at carnival, and he is drinking lots of wine. Montresor decides that today is the day to get his revenge on Fortunato.

- Montresor hates Fortunato. He wants to get revenge on Fortunato by killing him.

- Montresor lures Fortunato into his trap. He leads him down the catacombs. Fortunato doesn't know what's going to happen to him.

- once they reached the recess, Montresor chained Fortunato in. Fortunato was too stunned to say anything. He now realized his fatal mistake
