- When he came upon a certain place, he stopped there for the night
- Jacob departed from Beersheba, traveling alone.

- He then had a dream...
- I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac
- The land on which you are lying I will give to you and your descendants.
- Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and through them you will spread to the west and the east, to the north and the south.
- In you and your descendants all the families of the earth will find blessing. I am with you and will protect you wherever you go, and bring you back to this land. I will never leave you until I have done what I promised you.
- This stone shall be the house of God, and of all that God gives me I will give back to God one-tenth as an offering.
- Jacob took the stone on which his head had rested, and he set it up as a pillar.
- How awesome this place is! This is nothing else but the house of God, the gateway to heaven!

- Jacob continued his journey until he reached Haran. There, he met a young woman. when he found that this young woman was his own cousin Rachel, the daughter of Laban, he was so glad that he wept for joy. And at that moment he began to love Rachel, and longed to have her for his wife.
- So Jacob lived seven years in Laban's house, serving him and caring for his livestock

- I will serve you for seven years for your daughter Rachel.
