- Jig thinks the hills look like white elephants. the man replies that he has never seen one. when jig says, "You wouldn't have," he says that he might have seen one. there is tension and they argue.

- The couple were talking about ordering beer while waiting for their train. The conversations turns to hills on the side of the station, and the girl explains the hills look like white elephants.
- resolution
- The climax of this story begins when Jig and the american argue and Jig ends by saying "would you please please please please please please please stop talkin"
- Is when the girl seem have calmed down a little bit but are still tense and upset. The man says that he is okay with the girl having the baby but he actually is not this discussion then leads to the conclusion of the story.
- It is an open ending that leaves us with the impression that Jig miscarried.
