his name is Marcus Fass, he was born on ca. 1925. In Ulanow, Poland. He was one of the three children born to a jewish family in the polish town. Ulanow Jew's community had many of its own organizaion and maintained a large libary. To the age 3, he also attended a religious school he stared public school at 7.
In 1935 marcus's father left for america to find a job so that his family could later join him. mean while he was over there he would send his family money while they waited for there emigration paper's. Marcus's mother worked as a seamstress to help support the family. In September of the same year, the family was about to complete the paperwork for emigration when germany invaded poland.
after Ulanow was occupied, Marcus was forced o work as a laborer for the german army. In 1942 the nazis ordered a roundup of all ulanow's jews. fearing deportation. Marcus went into hiding with a friend. for over a year they managed to elude the germans by hiding in the forests and fields near ulanow. But during a german search for partisans, Marcus and his friends were traped in a rye field. sweeping the fields inch by inch with their dogs, the germans finally captured the pair.
