  • I have returned from Switzerland to issue my April Thesis
  • Lenin returned with his April Thesis which included the overthrow of the PG, an immediate end to the war, all power to the soviets, land given to the peasants and state control of factories and banks
  • We love the soviets!
  • Response to the June offensive lead to widespread mutinies and strikes in cities. Bolsheviks supported movement but did not take opportunity to seize power. Lenin fled to to Finland, Kerensky started propaganda against Bolsheviks
  • Kornilov moved troops to Petrograd due to growing unrest. Kerensky feared a military takeover so he released Bolsheviks from prison and gave them and industrial workers weapons. They were seen as saviours of the city, highlighted PG failure
  • Bolshevik member role to 200,000 and the party introduced 41 different newspapers. Elite force of 10,000 red guards we recruited by Petrograd factories already armed by the Kornilov affair. They were becoming more popular than PG
  • Petrograd soviets set a 'Military Revolutionary committee, to protect against possible German invasion. Used as a cover for planning seizure of power.
  • PG attempted to shut down 2 Bolshevik newspapers in Petrograd. Lenin feared they were trying to gain power over the Bolsheviks- with little fighting as the PG had no military back up other than a small group of Cossacks and the Amazons (unit of female soldiers). Winter Palace was seized and Kerensky fled Petrograd in the disguise of a female nurse.
